Justin Kalk Orchestra partners with Soles 4 Souls for series of benefit concerts
The Stiff Necked Rocker festival is the first of many to come
NASHVILLE – The first “Stiff Necked Rocker: 5 Hour Festival” to benefit Soles 4 Souls kicked off with several well-known Nashville bands at The Building on Saturday, October 26th. This is the first festival in a quarterly series of rock festivals to benefit the international charity.
Stiff Necked Rocker is a boutique recording company/studio owned by Justin Kalk, a multi-talented performer and founder of the Justin Kalk Orchestra, who has recently signed with the SuperStar Records label.
Ten bands came together to rock the benefit, including The Cunning, Nava Hotel, Reverse Buzzards, Adam Dalton & The B Sides, Willy 3rd Street, Harlott, Vanessa Barbee, Keya Gordon and Gumbot, and, of course, the Justin Kalk Orchestra.
“It was great to get everyone together and on the same page. Each time we put on a benefit, we plan to make it bigger and bigger to give back to people who need the help,” Kalk said.
Kalk partnered with the Nashville-based charity after hearing about their work in Haiti following the 2010 earthquake and string of natural disasters that left many without shelter, food and clothing. According to Soles 4 Soul’s Kelly Hoskins, the purpose is to collect shoes, both new from factory overstock and gently used, donated shoes to clothe people in third world countries.
“Justin was so diligent in gathering such a great group of musicians who are all so willing to commit time to the event,” Hoskins said.
Soles 4 Souls also invites artists and other volunteers on missions to places such as Haiti, Ghana and Tanzania to participate in distributing shoes.
“I can’t wait to volunteer to go oversees to see how all of our efforts are helping people around the world,” Kalk said.
